AI Ethics

A number of you have expressed an interest in Artificial Intelligence. With this in mind, there is a short video embedded within this page. It’s worthwhile listening to, alongside reading the relatively short text from the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International affairs. It touches on the ways in which algorithmic bias operates, as well as the need for governance of AI, and what the speaker in the video (an artificially created voice), calls ‘ethics washing’. A comment that stands out in the text  is the following:

“Concepts such as ethics, equality, and governance can be viewed as lofty and abstract. There is a critical need to translate these concepts into concrete, relatable explanations of how AI systems impact people today.”

Do we think there is a role for our creative work to communicate about such matters in ways which are understandable, relatable. and have impact?
